Who we are...

We are Relational

Church is not a business!  Church is not a circus or side show!  Church is not a social club!  Church is not a networking tool!  Church is not a good-will station!  Church is not a feel good facility!  Church is not entertainment & hype!

The CHURCH is HIS Bride and belongs to JESUS and IS TO BE RELATIONAL!  Here are three ways we look at it...

1.  Relationship with Jesus Christ! - Jesus Himself said that He would build His church.  He desires a church that will honor Him and dedicate the rest of their lives to living for Him!  (Mt 16)

2.  Relationship with the rest of God's Family: the body of Christ, His Church!  God's word teaches us that we should gather together to spur one another on to good deeds and to love... especially as we see that the day of His return is quickly arriving! (Heb 10:23-25)

3. Relationship with the World around us!  Jesus said that He would leaves us His Holy Spirit so that we could be "effective witnesses and martyrs," to reach a lost and dying world, for JESUS! (Acts 1:8)

The vision of CCC is to bring the Word of God to the People of God to reflect the image of God!  Therefore, we desire to make all teachings applicable to our daily lives and everyday situations.  CCC longs to see a family of believers caring for one another and reaching out to each other!  We hope that by equipping the saints through solid, chapter by chapter, verse by verse bible teaching we will be able to reach those who are not saved and see them come to the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! (Eph. 4)

Biblical

Here at Calvary we are not necessarily striving for theological poignancy but actual BIBLICAL ACCURRACY!  Remember that theology is the "study of God" and anyone can do that, good or bad, but to teach the BIBLE accurately is a much more sound way to get to KNOW GOD!  I like to tell people that if they want to read the LIPS OF GOD then READ HIS BIBLE!  (II Tim 3:16-17)

Doctrinal

Calvary Chapel Columbus (CCC) is a non-denominational Church with the goal of leading all those who may attend into the everlasting arms of Jesus.

What We’re About at Calvary Chapel Columbus

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.”     II Timothy 2:15

The roots of CCC stem from the Calvary Chapel movement out of Costa Mesa, Ca, founded by the late Pastor Chuck Smith.  We are a casual, come as you are fellowship of believers. We teach verse by verse through the Bible. Calvary Chapel Columbus has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only to their overemphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.

We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship.

We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped.

We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshiping Him.
(addendum 7/1/15) Statements on Marriage, Gender & Sexuality

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27, Psalm 139:14-15.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as taught in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25, Eph 5:21-33.)

We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4.)

We believe that God has commanded that sexual activity is to only be engaged in marriage between a man and a woman.  We believe that any form of sexual immorality; including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography is sinful and offensive to God and must be repented of. (Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:18-21.)

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11.)

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Calvary Chapel Columbus. (Eph 4:29, Col 3:12-14)

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of CCC as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to CCC and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by CCC in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thess 5:22.)

A Little More about CCC

Here at CCC we would love to see the people of Columbus in a personal relationship with Jesus! We pray that we will be able to reach Columbus, the Ft. Benning Army post, Harris County, Phenix City, Peru other mission endeavors and also to the ends of the earth as we surrender to Him!

We desire to watch the Lord build His Church, not man.  We began with a Monday Night Bible Study in Sept. ’03, moved to Sunday Morning services in September of ’04, and are now meeting on Sundays at 10:30am and other gatherings throughout the month!

We serve a BIG God and are expecting the Lord to do BIG things through HIS CHURCH, Calvary Chapel Columbus!

CCC places a strong emphasis on…

  • The Word of God being taught verse by verse.II Timothy 2:15
  • The worship of God through praise and prayer.
    Psalm 95:1-3
  • The witnessing to the lost through service, outreach and personal evangelism.
    Acts 1:8
  • The ‘with’ness, the fellowship, service and communion among believers. Acts 2:42
 More Doctrinal Beliefs…
  • We uphold to the complete, authoritative & inerrant Holy Scriptures known as, the Bible.
    I Timothy 3:16-17
  • We believe that you are saved by grace through faith not of works less any man should boast. Salvation is obtained through repenting from sin, believing upon & confessing Jesus as Lord & Savior.
    Eph. 2:8, I Cor. 15:1-8, Rom. 10:9-10
  • We believe in the active and personal work of the Holy Spirit and all his gifts as prescribed in the scriptures.
    Acts 1:8 & 2:1-13, 1 Cor. 12-14
  • We believe in the doctrine of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one.
    Matthew 3:13-17, 28:19-20
  • We believe in the great commission as explained by Jesus at the end of the Gospels. Evangelism and outreach is a must and outflow of the ministry of the word of God!   “Go into all the world…”
    Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 21:15-17
  • We believe baptism of the believer is important and is a part of the Christian walk, but it is not essential for salvation.
    Romans 10:13, I Cor. 1:10-18
  • We believe God set up Male leadership in the church. We believe in the pattern and principle of male leadership and responsibility in both the home and the church, according to the sacrificial example of Jesus. We believe this limits the roles of pastoral leadership and doctrinal authority to qualified men (I Corinthians 11:1-12; I Timothy 2:1-15). We believe in the universal church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the head and all who are born again are a part of the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 4:15-16).
